Seattle Seahawks Star quarterback Russell Wilson filed for divorce last month, and has not disclosed the reason. In an unprecedented move, the media has largely avoided shameful digging or following baseless rumors. They hardly even address it at all. Except one reporter. Though it is purely speculation on his part, one writer wonders if the business savvy QB timed the breakup with his ex-wife so that he could keep his hands on his money. Could this be the first glimpse of a new revelation?
The press has been unusually hands off when covering the Wilson divorce. Wilson seems so nice and does all kinds of charity work. He's a great role model for the NFL. Yet to not examine the split seems strange. What exactly is it about Wilson that has caused the media for once to respect his request for privacy? (via MyNorthwest.com):
"Just finding the right words or tone to talk about Wilson's personal reality is difficult. You shouldn't make it seem too solemn or tragic given today's reality that this is how so many marriages end. To characterize it as commonplace doesn't seem right, either...
"As a person, I have to admit I am curious about the reason Wilson's marriage is ending. As a professional, I don't believe it's my job to try and root out the answer from someone who has requested that the subject be left alone."
Wild speculation with no facts is a dangerous and irresponsible game, but Jake O'Donnell had a thought right off the bat that actually makes sense. No one else has picked up the story, and again, it's just a theory, but O'Donnell suggested that Wilson might be getting out before he signs a new contract for big money. Which in the case of divorce a few years from now, would entitle her to big money (via Sports Grid):
"He's a nice guy, she seems like a nice girl, and we'd believe they were splitting for the right reasons - but the fact remains that Wilson is most likely looking at the girl he married at 22 years old differently now that he's an A-list celebrity with a massive amount of money coming to him in the near future. It's a painful reality, but the business of being a football player is complicated with many standing to profit from your success."
