‘Game of Thrones’ Pedro Pascal Talks Crushing End To Red Viper and Tyrion's Trial By Combat [SPOILERS]

MAJOR SPOILER ALERT: Game of Thrones ended the eighth episode of its fourth season with a mind blowing...or should we say crushing, death. Tyrion’s fallen champion Prince Oberyn suffered a crushing (literally) defeat at the hands of the Mountain. Now Oberyn actor, Pedro Pascal is opening up about the shocking ending to the Red Viper’s epic battle.

Pedro Pascal impressed everyone when we saw the actor dancing circles around the mountain during Tyrion's trial by combat. It was looking the Red Viper was about to defeat the beast until his thirst for vengeance got the better of him. After the fight aired Pascal spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the bout.

“It was really intense. It was a three-day shoot. We were in the arena that was exposed to sunlight for the entire day. [I was] layered, though agile, but still covered in armor and flying around like a wasp. Just flying around this 6-foot-8, 420-pound guy, who literally had a sword that went from the ground to my chin… I never got hit, but I definitely could have stretched a bit more. There was costume rippage.”

Hey Prince Oberyn...Why the squished face? Oh, yeah, you were too busy showboating and trying to get a confession to do your job.

Pascal also opened up about why Oberyn lost his life and why he doesn’t think he lost the battle:

“Getting too close and being too far delivered by his own passions. Because ultimately, it is about defeating this man who raped and killed his sister, but before he can do that, before he can end this man’s life, he needs a confession. He needs to hear it. And interestingly I had this great conversation with [Thrones co-star] Lena Headey about Oberyn’s journey, and how even though it ends badly, he still hears the confession, you know? I don’t even need to go on after that once it’s been said out loud. And the ecstasy of achieving that, even though it’s being achieved in the instance of my demise.”
