Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes breakup rumors have dominated headlines in recent months, despite neither actor acknowledging that they may no longer be dating. Those rumors have luckily waned. Unfortunately, that's due primarily to Ryan's latest movie bombing. Fear not, a prominent director has come to Ryan's aid, defending the movie.
Director Nicolas Winding Refn has finally come to the defense of Ryan Gosling's widely-panned directorial debut, Lost River. Despite getting terrible reviews from critics and fans alike, Refn tells NY Mag that he liked the film (via MTV News):
"I think it's a beautiful, beautiful, great movie that will grow on people. There are images from it that still stick with me...Because we're twins we make the same movie. Separated at birth, we found each other. That's the thing about twins. We stick together."
Evidently, Ryan and Eva are not "twins," because the two haven't been seen together in quite some time. In fact, the two haven't been photographed together in over six months AND Eva wasn't there to support her husband when his new film tanked at Cannes, as People reports:
"While Ryan Gosling promotes his directorial debut, Lost River, at the Cannes Film Festival this week, one person has been conspicuously absent: his girlfriend of three years, Eva Mendes - who happens to costar in the film... Meanwhile, Mendes, 40, has been keeping a low-profile, and the pair haven't been photographed together since last November."
Of course, not every outlet agrees. Celebrity Dirty Laundry even thinks that Ryan and Eva are secretly engaged.
According to a recent article on the site, the couple will likely hold off on going public with the announcement:
"Will the couple go public with their rumored engagement?...It would be difficult to hide a massive engagement ring while being photographed by the press in every angle possible, but then again, it's unlikely [Eva Mendes] even wear a ring. If the duo are engaged, then they'll probably attempt to keep it a secret for as long as humanly possible. Both of them are notorious for hating the press attention, and even with Ryan having to promote his new movie...he'll be amenable to opening up about his personal life all that much."
