It is not unheard of for some songs to share their names with other songs. However, just because a song shares a name with another, doesn’t make them the same song. Take for example Iggy Azalea’s new song, “Fancy.” Sure it shares it’s name with Bobbie Gentry’s hit song made famous by Reba McEntire, but not much else. Now someone has made a mash-up of the two tunes. Check out the report below to hear the Soundcloud audio track. We also threw in the Postmodern Jukebox music video remake of Azalea’s track as well her song “Problems” with Ariana Grande.
Reba McEntire’s classic cover of the Bobbie Gentry song “Fancy,” is the tale of a young girl from a hard luck family whose mother dresses her up and sends her out into the world, to (presumably) prostitute herself in order to survive.
The bridge to Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy” states:
“Trash the hotel
Let's get drunk on the mini bar
Make the phone call
Feels so good getting what I want
Yeah, keep on turning it up
Chandelier swinging, we don't give a f**k
Film star, yeah I'm deluxe
Classic, expensive, you don't get to touch
Ow…”
Now you don’t have to choice between Reba or Iggy whenever you are feeling “Fancy.” A mashup of the two songs have been put together on Soundcloud by Chamberlain. Check out the mix to the rap song with a Reba hook.
That is not the only alternative version of Iggy’s “Fancy.” The group Postmodern Jukebox has adapted the song in the style of a 1920’s Jazz number.
The official video for the Postmodern Jukebox version of the song, reads:
“The 1920's were truly a fancy decade, so Ashley Stroud joined us to re-imagine Iggy Azalea's hit song as if it was sung by a Jazz Age flapper. Perfect for your next Great Gatsby-themed party”.
