When Delino Deshields Jr. got hit by a 90mph fastball back in April his head swelled like a balloon. Then his picture blew up on Instagram. Now he claims he's back and better than ever. The Houston minor leaguer got his face smashed by a stray pitch and made his return to the diamond just a month later.
You may have seen the photo. It's pretty dramatic. But now, Deshields claims, it's like nothing ever happened (via TMZ):
"'Everything is pretty much back to normal. I feel good,' DDJ tells TMZ Sports ... 'I don't have any lingering effects. Nothing bothers me.'
"In case you were wondering, Delino is also back to eating solid food -- and tells us his first 'real' meal was chicken wings ... boneless, of course.
"As far as the pitcher who fired the face-breaking fastball, Delino says he has not spoken with him since the accident ... and says he's totally OK with that.
"'It's not a big deal. If he wanted to say something, he could, but he's not obligated.'"
Deshields was in good spirits even in the immediate aftermath. Right after getting beaned in the head, DeShields was ready to get back in the game. He had a sense of humor too. His friend tweeted a picture of his swollen face and it immediately went viral. In an interview with Fox Sports, he said he just trusted that everything was going to work out (via Fox Sports):
"FS: Were you scared or did doctors expect that to happen?
"DD: I wasn't scared at all. Everything happens for a reason, as silly as that may sound considering I got a ball to my face. But at the end of the day, I'm blessed and I know that God has something in store for me."
What do you think? Would you be eager to jump back in the batter's box after getting creamed by a fastball?
