Carnegie Hall continues with the "Voices From Latin America," festival when it welcomes a showpiece performance from the dynamic Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela on Dec. 10 led by star conductor Gustavo Dudamel.

"Our pre-Hispanic history-the Aztecs, the Mayas, the Incas-are still alive in the music of all these composers," concert conductor Gustavo Dudamel said. "Our music is so inside of the land. You can smell, you can eat, you can see all of our Americas."

The Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela is the premier touring ensemble and is a part of El Sistema which is a network of youth and children Orchestras of Venezuela.

The ensemble is led by Dudamel who is principal conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. The 31 -year old Venezuelan in a twist has returned to conductor the very same system that nurtured his talents.

He attended the Jacinto Lara Conservatory, where he was taught the violin by José Luis Jiménez. He then went on to work with José Francisco del Castillo at the Latin-American Violin Academy.

He began to study conducting in 1995, first with Rodolfo Saglimbeni, then later with Jose Antonio Abreu. In 1999, he was appointed music director of the Orquesta Sinfonica Simon Bolivar.
