The controversy over the bogus sexual harassment lawsuit has died down but people just can't seem to leave the Cleveland Browns #22 draft pick alone. Despite the suit being revealed as a hoax and despite positive feedback from his coaches Manziel is a juicy media target. Everybody's talking about his Memorial Day trip to Las Vegas, except the Browns. They limit their criticism to the workplace.
Coach Mike Pettine, who has been brutally honest about expectations of Manziel, nevertheless had no problem with the rookie's long weekend in Vegas. Pettine explained that all players were excused for the holiday and had no work obligations.
While he had criticism of Johnny Football's initial performance at OTA's it was far more mundane (via ESPN):
"'It's like any other rookie, that he's just inconsistent,' Pettine said. 'I think a lot of it's the mental part of it. He's more worried about getting the formation right, making sure the motion is correct, and he's got the cadence. Then he's got to worry about where guys are. Being good mechanically takes a back seat to learning the system first. I think you see over the maturation process, once all that stuff becomes second nature, that he'll be a lot more comfortable.'
While the organization seems pleased with Manziel so far, the press is looking to take him down. But Manziel is always ready with a response (via CBS Sports):
"'I don't live my life according to you guys or according to what other people think of me,' he said Wednesday, via the Cleveland Plain Dealer. 'I'm going to live my life to the fullest and continue to be committed to this game, committed to what I need to be doing here and trying to earn my place in this locker room with these coaches, with this organization.'"
