Move over American Idol! Shut up The Voice! There is a new singing competition in town and this on is back by Disney so it has to be good. The new ABC show Rising Star will premiere this summer and will feature Judges: Ke$ha (Kesha), Josh Groban, Ludacris, and Brad Paisley. Like NBC’s spinning chair, the show will have its own gimmick, featuring live results at the end of each show. That brings up the tricky issues of time zones. Now the show’s producers are opening up about the Rising Star will compete with the setting sun.
There is one major problem with a show that has live results and that is sun. It takes longer to set on the west coast than it does in the east, or some sort of science stuff like that. Thus the need for Time Zone’s. So to fix this issues it looks like the stars are going to rise a little earlier on the West Coast.
Former American Idol producer Ken Wannabe is one of the names behind the new series. Ken recently cleared up some of the time-zone confusion as Variety reports:
“The clever thing with this show is that there’s no waiting until the end of the show to go to the phones. When you hit your app with yes or no, the result hits the broadcast screen within one and a half seconds. By the time the kid finishes the song, we’ll know whether (he or she) is moving on.”
Wannabe also spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the issues:
"Everyone can vote and take part in the process. On the West Coast, they have their own voting bar. That means that if somebody on the East Coast gets 65 percent, and doesn't go through, and then the West Coast votes over 70 percent, that [contestant] will go through. We'll put up a graphic as it happens."
Co-Producer, Nicolle Yaron ( The Voice, Last Call With Carson Daly) elaborated on the math, adding:
"We met with mathematicians and statisticians. The chances of there being a big difference are apparently very small. We have this in place just in case, but we don't know that we'll ever have to use it."
Rising Star premieres on June 22 on ABC at various times depending on where you live.
