Chicago Blackhawks Goalie Corey Crawford Police Investigation Battery Charges After Fan Accuses, Spray Bottle Incident, Bad Stats

Chicago Blackhawks goalie Corey Crawford is reportedly under police investigation after a fan was sprayed in the face with a water bottle. After the incident the man filed battery charges. This comes at an especially unwelcome time because Crawford's stats have been kind of bad lately.

Michael Wong, an LA Kings fan, was heckling Crawford when the frustrated goaltender sprayed water in his face. After being escorted out of the arena Wong complained that his eyes were stinging. Now he's filing battery charges against Crawford (via TMZ):

"TMZ Sports spoke with Wong who says he was sitting behind the Blackhawks bench -- and was heckling Crawford -- when the goalie was pulled from the game toward the end of the 3rd period.

"That's when Crawford -- who's in the middle of a 6-year, $36 MILLION contract -- allegedly whipped out a water bottle and blasted him right in the face.

"Wong says he believes the bottle was filled with backwash -- along with water -- and it has caused serious irritation to his eyes. Wong says he's going to a doctor to get his eyes checked."

The incident has got to be frustrating for Crawford, who has been struggling at the net lately (via Yahoo Sports):

"The Blackhawks really aren't giving up a ton of shots, either; Crawford has faced no more than 32 shots - not a huge number - in this series, but he has nonetheless given up 14 goals, all but one of which have come in the three losses."

Wong's case may be silly and unwarranted, and Crawford's response may have been hotheaded and unprofessional, but at the end of the day you've got to perform. And that's the main source of Crawford's frustration right now. He's got to step it up on the ice.
