New Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has a lot to do before next season. The first-time coach, who had the stones to diss former coach and mentor Phil Jackson for the Knicks' position, now has to tackle a job transition, wrapping up his gig as an analyst on TNT, and avoid any further snubs while following in the footsteps of outgoing coach Mark Jackson. Jackson, though beloved by his team, was fired immediately following the Warriors' playoff elimination.
When asked about the transition, Kerr seemed enthusiastic, but with his head screwed on straight (via USA Today):
"Well it's busy, but it's all good. The hardest thing is responding to all the people who are looking for spots. Everybody is calling me about a spot on the (coaching) staff. I've got a million calls to make. That's the hardest part. But I'm talking to (Warriors general manager) Bob Myers every day, and we're working on the staff and I'm finishing up with Turner before I can head up to the Bay and I can get going full speed."
Meanwhile point guard Steph Curry spoke, albeit vaguely and very diplomatically, about the departure of his beloved coach before towing the party line on Kerr's imminent arrival (via Mercury News):
"We've talked three or four times on the phone. Looking forward to getting face-to-face once his gig's done with TNT. But a lot of it's kind of just outlook on kind of the locker room as it is now and what his vision is for us next year going into the season."
Curry, who is a team leader both on and off the court, will most likely rally the rest of the team around Kerr and give it their all once they start training camp. But surely they will miss their dearly departed Captain Jackson.
