What does retired baseball star Royce Clayton think of long-time personality Manny Ramirez going to the minor leagues? Basically he called Ramirez' prolonged career choice an addiction. Royce also offered up his thoughts on Wrigley Field.
Royce Clayton is living the life of a retired professional baseball player. He's got the kids, the SUV, he's chillin'. What are Clayton's thoughts on Manny Ramirez as player/coach of the Cubs' Minor League team in Iowa? (via TMZ):
"Manny Ramirez didn't sign his new minor league baseball deal for the cash -- it's because he 'doesn't know what to do with himself without baseball' ... so says former MLB star Royce Clayton.
"41-year-old Manny just inked a deal with the Chicago Cubs to be a player/coach for its Triple-A affiliate in Iowa ... and Royce says it's just another example of 'Manny being Manny.'"
Probably better to have baseball as a habit than say, heroin.
Royce also elaborated on the legacy of classic ball parks like Wrigley Field. When asked about the Padres' Andrew Cashner's recent comments on the park being a dump, Clayton defended the venerated baseball venue, celebrating its increasingly rare longevity. He also pointed out that it's a great place to watch a baseball game, and don't forget kids, sports are still primarily for the spectators.
Cashner, who spent time as a Chicago Cub, came out in favor of proposed renovations to Wrigley (via Chicago Tribune):
"Cashner didn't mince words, one day after learning that the Cubs were seeking to start renovations to their ballpark despite the threat of legal action from rooftop owners. Cashner has a reasonable sampling of the Padres' facility as well as Wrigley, where he played during the 2010-11 seasons."
What do you think? Should Wrigley Field stay the same? Is there something to be said for history and tradition?
