"The Life of Pi," is being hailed as one of the greatest films of the year. The film is produced by Ang Lee and stars Suraj Sharma and based on the novel from Yann Martel.
The film comes out on Thursday and already is being tipped favorably by critics for its stunning visuals and the great acting of young star Suraj Sharma.
Betsy Sharkey of the Los Angeles Times wrote:
"The film is consistently beautiful, but it is during Pi's months at sea that it turns stunning. Sometimes it is in the simple wonder of a school of flying fish or a breaching whale. At others, it is the sense of an infinite presence in a star-drenched midnight sky or an ethereal underwater world illuminated by phosphorescence. The vision is Lee's, but credit must go to the battalions required to pull off this remarkable feat, including director of photography Claudio Miranda and production designer David Gropman."
Peter Travers of Rolling Stone wrote:
"Like 'Hugo,' from Martin Scorsese, 'Life of Pi' puts 3D in the hands of a world-class film artist. Lee uses 3D with the delicacy and lyricism of a poet. You don't just watch this movie, you live it. Every sight and sound is astounding, especially when you consider that the tiger is a digital creation."
Michael Philips of Chicago Tribune wrote:
"Lee brings serious craftsmanship and dramatic clarity to "Life of Pi," along with a near-constant deployment of 21st-century digital wow!"
"Life of Pi," is Yann Martel's prize winning novel that centers around a young boy named "Pi," stranded on a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger that is drifting out to sea. Martel's paints the struggle between the boy and tiger as they both look to survive this ordeal.
