Dominique Wilkins has long been a respected figure in the African American community. As a player and as a businessman Wilkins has shown character and high moral fiber. One of the first respondents to the Donald Sterling controversy, he published an excellent open letter addressing the situation. Aside from the more serious issues like Sterling and race in general, 'Nique also has time for the more lighthearted subject matter, like discussing the sweatiest NBA player of his time, and his first inaugural adult fantasy camp.
Days after news of the Sterling remarks Wilkins wrote a stunning open letter on CNN.com:
"Hearing about, and then listening to, the Donald Sterling recordings early Saturday left me and my NBA family disgusted. As one of the premiere professional leagues in the world, we take pride in carrying the banner as one of the most diverse sports industries, with a commitment to fair racial hiring practices. More than 80% of our players are men of color, and well over a third of them are African-American."
When not addressing racial injustice Wilkins likes to dish about who was the sweatiest player in the league (via TMZ). The answer? Moses Malone.
Wilkins will be hosting a fantasy camp this August featuring many of his former colleagues. Open to fans ages 30-65, the camp will not only provide normal folk the chance to mingle with NBA legends, but also to talk about lifestyle choices (via Dominique Wilkins Fantasy Camp):
"Health and wellness will have a major place in the camps itinerary and make up. As a result of Dominique's Type 2 diabetes diagnosis 14 years ago, it has been a mission of Nique's to preach not only health and wellness changes, but lifestyle changes as well. This camp is total life encompassing; how we eat, exercise, sleep, rest, manage stress, and most importantly PLAY."
