After finalizing his divorce from wife Meg with no prenup, Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay is now under scrutiny for drunken driving in March. Fans, critics and NFL players are all waiting to see how the league plans to deal with Irsay who has been charged with a DWI and 4 felony counts of possession. Redskins' defensive back Ryan Clark, as always, had comments on the situation, as well as commissioner Roger Goodell's hesitant stance.
Indy Colts fans must be tired of hearing about owner Jim Irsay, who has been in the headlines far too much this spring. First he was charged with a DWI and 4 felony counts of possession of a controlled substance.
Always outspoken Ryan Clark commented on NFL commissioner Roger Goodell's hesitation to dole out punishment to an owner for ill conduct. Goodell is known for swift and severe punishment to players who step out of line, and Clark points out the hypocrisy of not holding team owners to a higher standard (via CBS Sports):
"Right now, if Jim Irsay is going to represent this league, represent the Indianapolis Colts, going to be on TV at the owners meetings, trying to bring a Super Bowl to Indianapolis after what he's done? It shows the hypocrisy of the NFL and also Roger Goodell in the way that he deals with players and the way he deals for the people he works for," Clark said on ESPN's "First Take."
Clark also mentioned Ben Roethlisberger's 2010 suspension after being accused of sexual assault despite not being charged. The double standard Clark points out is hard to ignore.
At least Irsay didn't get involved in a nasty public divorce. He and ex-wife Meg settled their affairs quickly and painlessly despite the absence of a prenuptial agreement (via TMZ):
"Meg gets ... her house in Indiana, the rights to her fitness company, a substantial cash payment (the exact amount is confidential) and TWO CARS owned by the Indianapolis Colts.
"Jim gets ... 100% of the Indianapolis Colts, a home in Carmel, Indiana, a vacation home, a 'tennis barn' and other properties in Culver, IN ... along with several bank accounts."
