R.Kelly To Bring His 'Trapped In The Closet' Series To Broadway

Multi-award winning R&B singer R. Kelly is in production of a musical transferring his "Trapped in the Closet," song series to Broadway according to the Associated Press.

Playbill.com reported on Monday, the Grammy-Award winning musician and songwriter has had an offer to bring his episodes to the big stage.

"To transform it into a Broadway version, that's what I'm working on," said Kelly at the Sunshine Theater, where he unveiled the latest chapters in "Trapped in the Closet," which will debut on the IFC channel Nov. 23.

Kelly hinted that he might appear in some onstage performances. Kelly dubs his "Trapped in the Closet," series as a "hip hopera," a project that he's starred, wrote and produced and according to Playbill, the R&B artist said he has more chapters of the series waiting to be released.

"Trapped in the Closet" is about a one-night stand that leads to intertwined events happening around R. Kelly it that involves love, sex and deceit.

To go along with R. Kelly's "Trapped in the Closet," series which debuted in 2005, the crooner has 12 studio albums with the 13th on the way in 2013 entitled "Black Panties."

Some of R. Kelley's greatest hits are "I Believe I Can Fly," "Ignition" and "Bump n' Grind."

"Arguably the most important R&B figure of the of the 1990s and 2000s," said Rolling Stone. Music executive Barry Weiss described Kelly as "the modern-day Prince, although there's a bit of Marvin Gaye in him, and a bit of Irvin Berlin."

R. Kelly will join the likes of Kathie Lee Gifford as a noted celebrity looking to enter the world of Broadway.
