It's the kind of thing fans usually do. They say you shouldn't bring your work home. But Manchester fighter Michael Bisping had a little touch of UFC flare on his wedding day. To introduce the newlyweds, UFC ring announcer Bruce Buffer did the whole pre-fight spiel as if they were fighters headed into the Octagon.
At the reception for Bisping and his new wife Rebecca's Orange County wedding, the UFC announcer Bruce Buffer worked in plenty of "marriage is a fight" metaphors and trademarked catchphrases (via ABC News):
"'The groom ... UFC Octagon warrior who is now entering the true fighting arena of champions called marriaggggggggggggge, standing six-feet one-inch tall and weighing in at whatever he wants ... He is a lover, not a fighter, presenting the pride of Manchester, England, the one, the only, Michael 'The Count' Bisping.'
"With an announcement of this stature, one can only hope Buffer is available in the future when it comes time to announce baby news."
You can watch video of the wedding couple's reception and UFC-style intro here:
Buffer is the half-brother of boxing and wrestling announcer Michael Buffer. Arguably the better Buffer, he is the purveyor of golden pipes and the legendary phrase "Let's get ready to rumble!"
With a win-loss record of 24-6, 14 knockouts, 4 submissions, and 6 decisions, Bisping is a pretty successful middleweight, if not a very exciting one. Maybe the British fighter can cap his honeymoon with a win in August against the 9-2 Cung Le.
What do you think? Do you think having a ring announcer do your introduction is more appropriate for a fan than a fighter? Is there maybe someone who would object to that, like Bisping's wife? Does anybody really like Bruce Buffer?
