After three months of not commenting on his relationship with the WWE, speculation is as wild as ever. Some are certain he will return at Payback, which takes place in Punk's hometown of Chicago. Others say with the recent announcement of his marriage to A.J. Lee, as well as his estimated savings and numerous injuries it is unlikely that he will return to the ring. Not to mention that blog that his friend and ex-girlfriend wrote. Kevin Nash spoke last month about Punk's absence and speculated on Punk's departure.
With the clock ticking down to WWE Payback in Chicago and CM Punk's contract expiring in July, many veteran wrestlers have spoken out in favor of Punk's apparent retirement from the WWE. After ex-girlfriend Natalie Slater blogged about Punk being done with wrestling, and in light of his absence from the organization since January, older cats like Mick Foley, Steve Austin and Kevin Nash have publicly supported Punk's move.
Cageside Seats caught up with Kevin Nash in April (via Cageside Seats):
"A guy like him, man, it just... One thing that Chief Jay Strongbow told me when I first got in was 'get you a place and pay cash for it... I think Phil lives in a town house and he doesn't... he's not one of those guys that's going to have 15 cars. He's one of those simple guys... a lot of miles, and he works a lot more aggressive style than I ever did, so he's got wear and tear on him. At some point he probably saved $4 or 5 million... You don't need much more than that. "
Nash praised Punk for his intensity as well as his intelligence and implied that it's much better to be financially secure than depending on wrestling to pay the bills. That's where guys go past the point they should.
What do you think? Is CM Punk really done?
