Amidst rumors of return to pro wrestling, and a possible match with Undertaker at Wrestlemania XXXI, the recently retired Sting has been threatening to make a splash once again in Sports Entertainment history. But is that going to happen? The odds don't look good right now.
The fantasy match wrestling fans have been dreaming of for years is in jeopardy before it was even confirmed. The thin chance the match had in the first place, built on rumors and speculation, is crumbling before our very eyes. Sting has been basically retired for a few years but has been contemplating a return to pro wrestling- at least as a commentator/ analyst.
But he did express a desire to wrestle at least one opponent before hanging up his boots forever: Undertaker.
What seemed like a done deal last week (at least in terms of a contract with the WWE) is now all up in the air (via Inquisitr):
"According to Wrestlezone, the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer newsletter reported that the idea of Sting signing a WWE contract is no longer cast in concrete. This is a big deal because numerous articles prior to this one reported Sting's contract status wasn't an issue of 'if' he will sign, but 'when' he will sign on the dotted line.
"Now, the big 'I-F' is more prominent than ever. The longer it takes for Sting to sign a contract with the WWE, the less likely it becomes that he will ever will."
Speculation of Sting's reluctance to jump into bed with the WWE points to Vince McMahon's recent, public stock plunge as well as the possibility that there will be no match between Sting and Undertaker. Taker's loss to Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania XXX and his multiple injuries and advance age all seem to be spelling doom for the matchup so many want to see. It just may be impossible.
What do you think? Is it too late? Is there a chance Sting and Undertaker could still square off at Wrestlemania XXXI? Will he sign with WWE if there is no match?
