Divergent beauty Shailene Woodley and Theo James aren't dating just yet, but Theo still has plenty of time over the next few Insurgent and Assurgent movies to move from friend to boyfriend. But right now the only movie on Woodley's mind is The Fault of Our Stars with Ansel Elgort. Shailene has been fiercely promoting the film, based on a novel that "changed" her life. Shailene describes the seemingly sad tale as a celebration of life and love. Her pre-recorded audition was so spot-on and moving that the book's author John Green literally wept when he watched it. Living on the road, it isn't always easy to get or find the things that you are familiar with, but during a recent discussion about road life Shai revealed that she can always supplement her diet with copious amount of her favorite bread from discount wholesaler Costco, not matter what town she is in.
Unlike the film that has made her famous, Divergent, Shailene Woodley didn't set out for her part in The Fault of Our Stars because she needed a career vehicle--Woodley claims she's drawn to the project because the screen-play and the novel it's based on changed her life.
The 22-yeariold offbeat starlet told ABC News that she couldn't imagine not being involved with the film:
"I didn't want to do this movie so I could be like, 'look how I can cry as an actor, look what I can do.'
"I wanted to do this movie because the book changed my life."
Shailene claims that she even went as far as writing the author a letter to let him know how much the book meant to her and how badly she was interested in working on the movie (via Stuff):
"I did write a letter to John Green to basically say, 'Thank you, and I'm so grateful you were able to write this gift to share with the world'," Woodley, 22, who also starred in this year's sci-fi hit Divergent, said.
"I wanted to make sure this movie was made because my life was transformed by reading the book and the script.
"I could only imagine how many lives it would transform if it was to be a film."
Though Green send he appreciated the letter at the time, he really didn't understand what Shailene was all about until her finally checked out her audition tape some time later (via Stuff):
"Oh, it just gutted me...I was blown away.
"I didn't really understand who she was...I was in tears and just so grateful that she had even auditioned for it.
"I immediately called the producer and said, 'What do I have to do? Can I call her? Can I go to LA?'
"I knew then she was going to be the perfect Hazel".
Shailene clearly love the nomadic lifestyle that goes along with being an international movie star, but that can be hard on a person like Shai, who has so many self-imposed dietary restriction.
Woodley admitted that when the going gets tough she gets going to Costco (via Contact Music):
"I have a Costco card...I'm on my mom's account...There's a bread at Costco that they don't sell anywhere else.
"No matter where I am, I can get my Costco bread."
Do they sell edible clay at Costco too...or does Shai just forage for that in the parking lot?
