Sometimes all it takes is a phone call. After nearly ten years of beef Ken Shamrock and UFC shot-caller Dana White are back on good terms. At least they're on speaking terms. Their nasty split in 2006 and public feud ever since has been constant, even up to a day before their phone call.
There has been no love lost between former and future associates Dana White and Ken Shamrock. Over the last 8 years the two have had an acrimonious public feud played out mostly in the press (via TMZ):
"But now, both Dana and Ken confirm to TMZ Sports ... they spoke on the phone earlier today and hashed out their issues for 45 minutes -- and the end result was a truce.
"Dana tells us, 'Ken Shamrock and I spoke and we have squashed our beef.'
"As for Shamrock ... he says the call wasn't all sunshine and rainbows -- they addressed some tough issues -- but in the end, were able to come to an understanding and decided to bury the hatchet.
"'It's bigger than us. It's good for the UFC. It's good for the fans.'"
It will probably be good for their wallets too. Ken Shamrock has a solid fan base and ties to the WWE which could mean big bucks in merchandising alone. But if Shamrock were to return to the Octagon it could be a big crossover ticket in terms of Pay-Per-View sales.
But let not the burying of ye olde hatchet fool anyone. A public make-up and a business relationship do not necessarily make for a smooth ride. Two hot-headed middle-aged men who like to fight just decided to try to make a lot of money together. Stay tuned.
What do you think? Is the reunion strictly business or do White and Shamrock intend to go golfing together at some point?
