Last week it was announced that John Barrowman would return to Arrow Season 3 as a series regular. The accomplished stage actor, who is beloved for his role as Captain Jack Harkness on Dr. Who and its spin-off Torchwood, has been a part of the series from the beginning as villain Malcolm Merlin. Now Barrowman is offering up some spoilers for his expanded role next season.
Last week during the CW annual upfronts presentation, John Barrowman was promoted to series regular on Arrow. Following the announcement, Barrowman’s official Facebook page spread the word:
“At today's Upfront presentation of the channel's new season TV shows, The CW announced that John would return as Malcolm Merlyn, the Dark Archer, in Season 3 of Arrow - and he is to be promoted to series regular.”
“I excited to explore what is yet to come between Malcolm and Thea, and also what’s yet to come between Oliver and Malcolm, and all of the rest of them.”
Arrow executive producer Greg Berlanti spoke with Digital Spy earlier in the year, about the importance of The Dark Archer:
"He's the Dark Archer so he's an integral part of the show. He is the ultimate foe, but you want to use it in a way that it doesn't diminish who The Arrow is, you know? Obviously, we know that he's Thea's dad and there'll be other steps taken there. So we'll definitely be taking that story further this year."
