Magneto Michael Fassbender Talks ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ and Professor X James McAvoy Love

X-Men: Days of Future Past is right around the corner and the film’s stars are out in full force to promote the movie. Recently Michael Fassbender opened up about the movies themes of civil rights, including religion and sexual orientation. The Magneto actor also spoke about his love for his co-star, James McAvoy.

The struggle of the mutants was always meant to be a commentary on real world civil right’s issues. Recently, Fassbender pointed out that everyone can relate to it in some form or another, telling Details:

“At some point everybody--well, not everybody, but a vast major it--has felt displaced for one reason or another. Going to high school, some people have glasses, other people have certain religious beliefs or sexual orientation. For whatever reason, they feel ostracized. I think the great thing about the X-Men series is that people everywhere can relate to it.”

Just like Sir Ian McKellan and Sir Patrick Stewart, the young Magneto actor and Professor X ( James McAvoy) are best friends. Fassbender revealed his admiration for McAvoy, adding:

"I had had admiration from a distance. James came in to do the screen test with me and from there, there was a respect and a friendliness between us. But then as it developed, there was more trust, and you realize that the other person's got your back. Then the trust becomes deeper and it goes somewhere else, for sure."

McAvoy shared the admiration, telling Fassbender:

"Before Michael and I even met, I was already willing to go with him and be open to him, because I was like, 'This guy's f****n' brilliant. Not to be too f****n' up your ass or anything like that, but the thing that elevated First Class for me was working with you."

X-Men: Days of Future Past hits theaters on May 23.
