Christian Bale Bails on 'Child 44', a Ridley Scott Film

Welsh actor Christian Bale turned down a role in "Child 44," a film coming out of Scott Free Productions. Director Daniel Espinosa confirmed Bale's wishes via thewrap.com.

As reported by MSN Entertainment Bale met with filmmakers on Tuesday and informed them that he will not play a part in the in the film.

"Child 44," is based on the novel British writer Tom Rob Smith and is set in the 1950s, the story revolves around a member of the Soviet military police who is investigating a series of nasty child murders. He becomes the target of his government's suspicion and paranoia.

The focal point of the book centers around Leo Demidov, a disgraced lawyer in the Stalin-era Soviet Union, who is assigned to investigate the murders. The book is based on the true story of the Ukrainian serial killer Andrei Chikatilo, who was executed for 52 murders.

Smith's novel is being redone by producer Ridley Scott while Richard Price is writing the script and its reported by both Yahoo and MSN that Lionsgate/Summit will not be involved in the film.

Smith came out with "Child 44," in 2008. His other works include, "The Secret Speech," which was published in 2009 and his latest text is entitled "Agent 6," which was published in 2011. Bale is known for numerous roles over the years with the most successful coming from the "Batman," series. He won an Academy Award for Best Supprting Actor for the movie, "The FIghter."

Bale has other projects lined up namely the Scott Cooper film "Out of the Furnace," which is being co-produced by Leonardo DiCaprio and is scheduled to be released in the fall of 2013.
