‘Firefly’s’ Nathan Fillion talks Canceled ‘Community’ After Joel McHale CBS Craig Ferguson Replacement Rumors

Last week, the unthinkable happened. NBC canceled Community. The cult college comedy was just one meager season away from its six season goal. The show’s creator Dan Harmon has since announced that he is giving up on trying to save the show. Firefly’s Nathan Fillion knows a thing or two about canceled shows. The super-fan offered his support to ill-fated show. Meanwhile, Joel McHale may have found his next gig. The WHCD and Soup host is rumored to be in the running to replace Craig Ferguson.

We are about to embark on the darkest timeline. Community is no more. The show’s creator, Dan Harmon addressed the cancellation on his podcast:

“I was on my way to LAX and somebody from Sony called me. The fans of that show have more reason to be upset than I do. I can try to make another show and also I got paid for every minute I cared about that show. The people that are most devastated are people who put unpaid labor into the show [aka fans]. They didn’t get compensated for it. They loved the show.”

Long time superfan and one time guest star, Nathan Fillion tweeted his condolences for the show:

“Dear #Community,
Perhaps TV could only take so much amaze-Dean. The lesson I take: Pace myself. Thanks for all your work.”

Joel McHale also Tweeted his goodbye to fans, writing:

“Thanks Community fans for being the greatest that have ever walked the earth & Thanks @danharmon for letting me be on the coolest show ever.”

McHale is considered one of the top contenders to replace Craig Ferguson. The Soup host recently told Howard Stern that Community was holding him back from taking the job:

“No one’s called. I don’t think I could even do it with Community. I’m under contract. I don’t think legally I could.”

Now that Community is no more, McHale is free to jump ship on over to CBS. The Talk host Julie Chen recently tweeted of herself and husband, CBS Head Les Moonves, alongside McHale with the caption:

“Me and my hubby hanging with the hilarious @joelmchale.”
