After this week’s explosive Season 2 finale, Arrow is going to need a new big bad for Season 3….OK! Maybe an old one. Malcolm Merlin is alive and well and has just recruited his daughter Thea Queen to his side..So of course it should not surprise anyone that he will have a major role to play next year. Stephen Amell recently revealed that John Barrowman has been promoted to series regular. Barrowman is perhaps best known outside of the Arrowverse as the bi-sexual Captain Jack Harkness on Dr. Who and it’s spin-off series Torchwood.
Fans can expect to see a lot more of John Barrowman next year. The Arrow himself, Stephen Amell, posted a picture of Barrowman with his wrapped his throat along with the caption:
“Meet our newest series regular. Mister John Barrowman.”
Barrowman’s official Facebook page also spread the news writing:
“At today's Upfront presentation of the channel's new season TV shows, The CW announced that John would return as Malcolm Merlyn, the Dark Archer, in Season 3 of Arrow - and he is to be promoted to series regular.”
Earlier in the year, Arrow executive producer Greg Berlanti spoke with Digital Spy about the importance of The Dark Archer:
"He's the Dark Archer so he's an integral part of the show. He is the ultimate foe, but you want to use it in a way that it doe
sn't diminish who The Arrow is, you know? Obviously, we know that he's Thea's dad and there'll be other steps taken there. So we'll definitely be taking that story further this year."
