Johnny Galecki's insecure yet lovable Leonard finally made the ultimate move last week on CBS' hit Big Bang Theory--asking Penny aka Priceline hottie Kaley Cuoco to marry him following her realization that she loves him more than show business. Though excited fans have pined for this magic coupling for years, the rating hardly seemed to reflected as much. Kaley Cuoco off-screen wedding to Ryan Sweeting seemingly gave the show a bigger bump. Perhaps executive producer Steve Molaro is hoping that the Season 7 finale disappearance of Jim Parsons' character Sheldon will be enough to bring the viewers back in droves.
Once Kaley Cuoco as Penny realized that nothing was going to make her happy without Leonard by her side there was little left to do other than go back home and hope he'd pull that silly ring out of his wallet, which is exactly that he did.
Sadly the climatic comedic catharsis aired to fewer viewers than the show has seen in almost half a decade.
According to Biz Journal, what should have been the series' most watched episode to date was a dissapoitment to say the least:
"Over on CBS, Leonard and Penny finally got engaged on The Big Bang Theory (for real this time) but the long-awaited moment earned just a 3.8 rating average among adults 18-49-the show's lowest ratings since at least season three."
Perhaps the show's neurotic main character will be able to bring up the rating by not being on it, or at least that seems to be the line of logic behind the finale cliffhanger.
Jim Parson told TV Line that he wasn't going to be sticking around for the final finale act of Season 7--Sheldon just has too much stuff going on:
"[Sheldon] gets the hell out of there and I have no idea where he's going or what he's planning.
"I won't know until I come back and read the first episode [of Season 8].
"All the [personal and professional] changes that are taking place finally start to come home to roost for him as problems."
Let's just hope that by the time they bring Sheldon back, there is still an audience there to watch it.
