It is official. We do not have to live in a world out Law & Order: SVU. At least for another year. The long-running NBC cop drama has been renewed for a 16th season. The show was on the bubble between renewal and cancellation for some time now, allegedly because of budget negotiations. Now the show has been renewed, what will that mean for the new Captain Donal Logue. Logue will also be playing a different type of detective, (Bullock) on the new Batman prequel, Gotham. Speaking of cancellations, Christopher Meloni's new show, Surviving Jack was recently given the axe. Does that mean we might get to see Stabler return to the SVU?
The official plot synopsis for tonight’s all new episode of Law & Order: SVU, titled “Thought Criminal,” reads:
“An aggressive tactic for capturing sex offenders is used by the squad when they go undercover and target a successful photographer who may have taken his fantasies too far. However, no victim is found, making the case challenging.”
Donal Logue, (Captain Murphy) was recently promoted to recurring status as the new head of the SVU. However, Logue has also been cast on Fox’s Gotham, leaving many to wonder how long he will last on SVU.
Logue recently spoke to E! News about his upcoming role in Gotham:
"I'm super excited. Gotham--it was weird, I've never been on a ride like that. It pre-dated SVU, I met them and talked to them and there was some weird internet rumor that I was playing Commissioner Gordon--he wasn't the commissioner at the time--and I'm like, ‘I'm way too old, man!' It was weird to be part of this kind of ongoing discussion that I was not in the mix of. It's an exciting thing; it's going to be here in New York. It's one of those funny things where they're super secretive, so you have to go to a secret place to read a script and give away your phone."
He went on to compare his role in Gotham to one of the SVU detectives:
"He might be pretty morally reprehensible too. Harvey Bullock, he definitely has walked on both sides. Harvey's a detective the way that right now Rollins is a detective. There's a morally ambiguous world that he runs in."
Now that Surviving Jack has been canceled, fans are wondering if Christopher Meloni will return his role as Detective Stabler. Recently Meloni told E! News about not coming back to the show:
"From where I sit right now, I spent 12 years there. It was a great experience. I loved all the people, I loved the character, I just feel at this point and time it's kind of been done, for me."
Check out the all new episode tonight at 9:00 p.m. on NBC.
