Johnny Manziel Lawsuits Settled As Johnny Football Drafted To NFL Cleveland Browns

Johnny Manziel, perhaps better known as Johnny Football, can rest easy knowing that the only money-grubbing thieves that can sell T-shirts with his name on them are the NFL. But seriously folks; the number 22 Draft pick and new quarterback for the Cleveland Browns filed a pair of lawsuits last year, both of which were settled.

The industrious football star, formerly of Texas A&M, could already see dollar signs in his future so he incorporated. Then, when a couple o' wiseguys tried to make a buck selling "Johnny Football" shirts they got cold busted by the J Man (via Houston Chronicle):

"As Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel enters professional football, a court ruling makes it official that his business competitors can't sell merchandise bearing the phrase 'Johnny Football.'

"Manziel, who was drafted last week by the Cleveland Browns, has exerted his claim to the Johnny Football name through his company JMAN 2 Enterprises LLC.

"Last year, the corporation filed two lawsuits in U.S. District Court in Tyler against companies that were also using the name to sell T-shirts.

"In February 2013, JMan2 Enterprises filed suit against Eric Vaughn, a Fairview, Texas, resident selling shirts with the slogan 'Keep Calm and Johnny Football.'

"Two weeks later, on March 1, 2013, the Tyler-based company sued Kevin Doolan, a Chicago resident doing business as Cubby Tees. Doolan's shirts also sported the name Johnny Football."

While the financial details of either suit were not disclosed, it was clearly ruled that all production of Johnny Football merchandise by parties other than JMan 2 Enterprises must cease and desist. Additionally merchandise bearing the name as well as designs and templates had to be turned over within 30 days.

What do you think? Should people be allowed to make these products without the knowledge or consent of Manziel?
