David Benoit is the first-born son of the late Chris Benoit. The 21 year-old Benoit was scheduled to make his pro wrestling debut July 18. The match has been cancelled, however, after Chris Jericho intervened. It seems Smith Hart lied about the amount of training David had (which is virtually none) and when Jericho discovered what was going on he quickly put a stop to it.
In what could have turned out to be hugely embarrassing for all involved David Benoit was set to team with Chavo Guerrero in Calgary, Alberta, Canada for his professional debut. But, as it turns out, Benoit has no real experience (via Cageside Seats):
"Indeed, he once went to a WWE show and met with Triple H and William Regal backstage and asked them about becoming a wrestler for the company...According to last week's Figure Four Weekly Newsletter, David strangely claimed that he was also told that WWE had no qualms about him wrestling under his real name and they'd even seek to profit from it: David did enroll at Storm's school at one point and even posed in a class photograph, but he then failed to show up on the first day of training and thus has little formal wrestling experience. He's good friends with Harry Smith, so he may have taught him a thing or two, but no way was David ready for working in front of a live crowd."
Chris Jericho caught wind of the situation and told Chavo Guerrero about Benoit's inexperience and Chavo immediately pulled out. Promoter Smith Hart said that there was no real risk and has "apologized" to fans who won't get to see the great event.
What do you think? Was Smith Hart just trying to exploit Benoit's name to fill the seats?
