Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice is awaiting trial on assault charges for allegedly beating his girlfriend (now wife- the two were married the following day after the alleged incident) in a New Jersey casino in February. Despite security showing Rice dragging Janay Palmer, unconscious, out of an elevator, Rice has entered a plea of not guilty. This week Rice was spotted at his niece's lacrosse match.
Ray Rice awaits his May 29 assault trial and so, you know, kinda figured he would just go check out his niece's lacrosse game. You know, like ya do (via Baltimore Sun):
"A group of eighth-graders warming up for a rec lacrosse game at North Harford High School Monday night spotted an unlikely spectator - the Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice - in the crowd Monday night.
"Rice was at the Pylesville school Monday evening to watch his niece, who is on one of the Parkville/Loch Raven teams, play the Hawks Midget B team, said Tammy Dudick, who coaches the Jarrettsville Hawks Junior B team, which was warming up when the players spotted Rice. 'One girl commented that she was in 'breathing distance' of Ray Rice,' Dudick said. 'They girls were all giddy and beside themselves, and a few parents, too.'
"Twelve-year-old Samantha Crone, whose team played Rice's niece's team, was 'super excited' to meet Rice, her mom, Nicole Crone said."
After the incriminating footage that surfaced last week (via TMZ) of the night of the alleged incident, maybe it's not the wisest choice to let your daughter pose for photos with Rice. Just a thought.
Given the justice system's track record of completely trivializing violence against women this trial could go in any direction. Two pieces of information worth mentioning (via CBS); Palmer was also arrested the night of the alleged incident and she refuses to comment on the situation and appeared at his arraignment, walking with him into the courthouse.
