5 Dead In Ohio Over Custody Battle, Poison Maybe The Cause

Five people were found dead on Monday when firefighters arrived at an Ohio home with police believing it was a possible murder-suicide. According to Yahoo News the five persons who died were exposed to carbon monoxide poisoning.

Found dead were three children, their uncle and grandmother and the possible motive may have been a custody battle.

The bodies were identified as 54-year old Sandy Ford, her 32-year old son Andy Ford and grandchildren 10-year old Paige Hayes, 6-year old Logan Hayes and 5-year old Madalyn Hayes.

A truck was running with hoses leading from the exhaust into a car in the family's garage and the door to the garage was barricaded shut according to officials.

Sandy Ford's husband Randy Ford called police Monday afternoon and said that he found suspicious notes in the house from his wife, son and grandchildren and was unable to enter the garage.

Sgt. Joe Heffernan said according to Yahoo that Sandy Ford was the one mostly taking care of the children. Dean Sparks the executive director of Lucas County Children Services told the Toledo Blade that Sandy Ford was given custody of the children in 2009 and he called the incident a "horrible tragedy."

Sgt Heffernan said that the Toledo police were called to the Ford residence twice last week according to the Toledo Blade first on Nov. 6 for a domestic violence issue and then on Nov. 8 for a custody exchange.

Neighbors like Doug Hall said everything checked out okay and said the children were raking the leaves last week and said the only thing unusual he saw was a police car at the house on Nov. 8 and he said he didn't know why it was there.

Chris Hayes, the children's father was trying to get custody of them.
