If George Clooney learned one thing from the critical response to his Batman movies, it was to always prepare for the worst. Perhaps that it why that he is reportedly insisting on a bullet-proof marriage prenupt to protect his estimated $200 million net worth from his soon-to-be-wife, new fiancé Amal Alamuddin, in case they should ever divorce. It's not that newly engaged Clooney doesn't trust his girlfriend won't split, but you can never be too safe--and she is an award winning lawyer, after all. Not all the wedding plans thus far have been litigious, however; a friend reports that George is talking about his villa in Lake Como, Italy being the perfect spot to exchange "I do's."
By all accounts George Clooney is ecstatic to announce his engagement to London lawyer Amal Alamuddin to the world, but that doesn't mean Danny Ocean forgot how his last marriage worked out.
That is, he is reportedly insisting on Amal agreeing to sign his heavy-duty prenupt before he signs any marriage license.
An insider told Star that George was only doing all this to ensure that they have a happy future no matter what, and supposedly Alamuddin completely agrees:
"George has had so many friends of through hell because of a split...He just wants to make sure that doesn't happen to him, if god forbid, he and Amal break up.
"[Amal] is a very smart woman who understands the business side of a relationship...She wouldn't expect anything less."
A pal of his tells Star Magazine that sentimental George likes to wax poetic about what a good wedding spot his villa is going to make:
"Ever since George bought his place in Lake Como, he's joked about it being the absolute perfect place to have a wedding--he just never thought it would be his."
And it's precisely those kinds of failures to successfully predict the future that have convinced George that he needs a prenupt no matter what.
$200 million just isn't going to protect itself.
