NBC Fired Gillian Anderson ‘Crisis’ Cancelled; Robin Wright Fiancé Ben Foster and ‘X-Files’ Star Join ‘Streetcar Named Desire’ Cast

X-Files icon Gillian Anderson primetime run was cut short when NBC announced earlier this week that it would be cancelling her series Crisis mid-season. Don't worry about Gilly, though she may have just been fired, but she's hardly out of a job. On top of having a series on the BBC, Anderson also is scheduled to star alongside Robin Wright's fiancé Ben Foster in the Tennessee Williams legendary play A Streetcar Named Desire. The cast reportedly includes Vanessa Kirby and will be directed by Benedict Andrews at the Young Vic in September.

Tough news announced this week for 90's television icon Gillian Anderson; it turns out her run as star of NBC's Sunday primetime series Crisis is over, as is the show.

It was reported by the very reputable Deadline that the network was cutting a lot of dead-weight heading into sweeps:

"More inevitable cancellations at NBC, which formally pulled the plug of underperforming midseason dramas Believe and Crisis. The demise of Believe makes it two NBC cancellations of JJ Abrams dramas today, as Revolution also was not picked up."

No matter, Gillian has plenty of other project she can use that added free time to prepare for--like her upcoming role as jilted Blanche DuBois in A Streetcar Named Desire later this fall.

According to Broadway World Anderson will be accompanied on stage by some pretty heavy Hollywood hitters:

"Vanessa Kirby will star as 'Stella' and Ben Foster will play her husband 'Stanley Kowalski' opposite Gillian Anderson as 'Blanche DuBois' in Tennessee Williams' A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE, beginning at the Young Vic on July 23 and running through September 6, 2014. Benedict Andrews directs."

Hopefully once Gillian knocks out the next few things she's got lined up, we can finally start talking about another X-Files film.
