Two of NASCAR's finest exchange blows after race in Phoenix, Arizona on Sunday. Jeff Gordon and Clint Bowyer got into it the Phoenix International Raceway according to foxnews.com.
The starting point for the feud began on the track on lap seven.Gordon was sent into the wall by Bowyer and instead of leaving the track the veteran driver waited for Bowyer to come back around and slide down the track.
Bowyer tried to get around him between turns 1 and 2 but couldn't causing the both of them to crash thus ending their involvement for the day also involved in the wreckage was Joey Logano's No. 20.
On the incident Gordon said. "Things just escalated over the year and I'd just had it. Clint has run into me numerous times, wrecked me and he got into me on the back straightaway and pretty much ruined our day. I've had it, fed up with it and got him back."
After the accident on the track Gordon pulled into the pit road where he was greeted by members of Bowyer's crew who grabbed him causing Gordon's team to come over and confront the opposing side which resulted in a brawl.
Bowyer who got to the area later leaped out of his machine and ran through a maze of people to get to Gordon's hauler where he was met by officials who stopped him. He went onto say.
"It makes us all look like a bunch of retards. It's pretty embarrassing. For a four-time champion and what I consider one of the best this sport's ever seen to act like this is pretty ridiculous."
Bowyer's No.15 car co-owner Michael Waltrip called the incident "cowardly and chicken," and went on to say. "Unbelievable that a champion, a guy that's raced for championships would get involved in a fight for a championship. Clint didn't do anything wrong."
The two Bowyer and Gordon along with their crew chiefs met with NASCAR after the incident with sheriff deputies guarding the door.
Vice President of NASCAR Robin Pemberton said after the incident. There's a lot of tension out there when you're running for points in the championship and things like that happen. We'll continue to talk to the drivers and get them to work it out. That was surely a shame."
