Actor Sean Astin Slams Rudy? LOTR Star Flip Flops Favorite Movie, Chooses Chess Flick?

When someone asks you "what is your favorite sports movie of all time," and you were actually in a sports movie, you should probably choose your own flick. So did actor Sean Astin really slam his 1993 film Rudy? Does he really prefer In Search of Bobby Fischer? Is chess really a sport?

Gossip site TMZ caught up with Astin yesterday and asked his opinion on the best sports movie of all time. Right off the bat, Astin is super classy, taking the modesty route and going for an easy winner, 2000's remember the Titans. Then he revises his answer, going the comedy route, and ultimately declaring In Search of Bobby Fischer the winner.

TMZ had this to say about the gridiron classic:

"Rudy is NOT the greatest sports movie of all-time ... it's not even the greatest FOOTBALL movie of all-time ... so says Rudy himself, Sean Astin.

"Despite the stadium chanting (which never really happened) ... and the dramatic jersey scene (which also never really happened) ... Rudy always seems to get the shaft when it comes to its place in cinematic history.

"Still, try to watch the scene when Rudy gets in the game and try not to get misty eyed. We dare you."

Later the same day Astin called TMZ to correct himself (via TMZ):

"11:14 AM PT -- We just received the following statement from Sean ...

"I'm calling in to amend the record. I think that the greatest movie of all time, not just sports movie, but the number 1 cinematic experience of all time is Rudy."

What do you think? What is the greatest sports movie of all time? Where does Rudy place on the list? Do the Harry Potter movies count? Isn't Sean Astin like, the nicest guy in Hollywood?
