Jay Gruden, new head coach for the Washington Redskins is confident about next season's prospects. He is also confident that QB Robert Griffin III is not a robot. One thing no one is particularly certain of is when, if ever, the storied organization will change its incredibly offensive mascot.
New coach Gruden indicated that while they intend to utilize Griffin's skills as a rusher, the offense won't be designed around it as in previous years (via CBS Sports):
"'Robert's the quarterback and ultimately Robert will play the position the way Robert plays it,'" Gruden told Andy Pollin. 'You know, I'm not gonna turn him into a robot and say, 'Stay in [the pocket] no matter what.' Part of his effectiveness as a quarterback is his ability to run. But will we have designed runs for him? Maybe not as many as they had last year, but there's a possibility of having those.' So, basically, RG3 won't be a robot, he'll kind of run when needed, but also he kind of won't run, if possible."
While Gruden seems tight-lipped about the issue regarding the team's name, Senator John McCain had plenty to say (via New York Daily News):
"Arizona Sen. John McCain weighed in Friday on the controversy surrounding Washington Redskins' owner Daniel Snyder's refusal to change the name of his team, despite the fact that it is perceived as racist, telling Dan Patrick that if he were Snyder he would 'probably change the name.' Snyder has been mired in controversy over his refusal to meet with Native American leaders to discuss changing the name and for his adamant defense of the name... '(Native Americans) consider it a slur,' McCain said, 'dating back to a terrible chapter of our American history. If Native Americans are offended, then they should be heard.'"
What do you think? Should the Redskins change their name? Is RGIII a robot?
