Vienna Boys Choir Sings At Symphony Center On Nov. 24

The Vienna Boys Choir is one of the oldest music institutions in the world with the outfit having date back to as late as the 1400s.

This Austrian symbol of pride will be making its way to the Symphony Center in Illinois come Nov. 24 and patrons are urged by the center not to bring infants to the program as they will not be admitted due to the length of the evening, children over eight years and above however are welcomed attend.

In a review of the groups tour of Australia in 2012 crikey.com.au's Alison Cotes said.

"And what a joy those 25 glowing faces are - some of them look as if they should still be cuddling teddy bears. It's worth buying the glossy program, too, so you can identify your favourites - mine is the bespectacled Elias, aged 10, with his sticky-out ears and sticking-up hair and the cutest dimples you've ever seen...an interview with Clemens, aged 11, who reveals that at the moment he wants to be an archaeologist, and that his musical idols are Gerald Wirth, the artistic director, and their conductor Manolo Cagnin. "But I really like Falco (Rock me, Amadeus) and Mozart. They are both dead."

The Wiener Sangerknaben or Vienna Boys Choir was formed in 1498 making it one of the oldest choirs in the world. The choir comprises of trebles and altos and the boys range from ages 10 to 14 and members mainly come from Austria with other nationalities also represented.

Each year the Austrian outfit does 300 concerts tours for nine to eleven weeks out of the year. In the history of the choir the unit has worked with the likes of Mozart, Franz and Bruckner.

After the choir goes to Chicago they have a date in New York at Carnegie Hall on Dec. 16.
