The Los Angeles Lakers have severed ties with coach Mike Brown following a lost to the Utah Jazz leaving the Lakers on a 1-4 start in the NBA season.
Mike Brown will be replaced by assistant coach Bernie Bickerstaff and he will be take over on interim basis for Friday's game against the Golden State Warriors and General Manager Mitch Kupchak says that the search for a new head coach will begin immediately according to NBA.com.
On Brown, Kupchak said. "This was a difficult and painful decision to make. Mike was very hard-working and dedicated, but we felt it was in the best interest of the team to make a change at this time. We appreciate Mike's efforts and contributions and wish him and his family the best of luck."
The sacking of Brown comes after the Lakers executive vice president Jim Buss stated that Brown's job was safe according to ESPN Los Angeles.
"I have no problems with Mike Brown at all. He just works too hard and he's too knowledgeable for this to be happening," Buss said.
"So either the system is flawed or something's going on. Or, like the Triangle, it's very hard to pick up and understand. I'm not a basketball mind like he is or the players are, and the players are fine with it, so I just have to be patient," added Buss.
The Lakers who admittedly have not been playing well have added two highly prized NBA players in center Dwight Howard from the Orlando Magic and point guard Steve Nash who opted to join the California team after many years at the Phoenix Suns.
After the defeat to the Utah Jazz on Wednesday night star player Kobe Bryant stormed of the court to the locker room before that during the game cameras picked up the veteran staring down Mike Brown in the final moments of the game.
