FX Americans stars Keri Russell and new boyfriend Matthew Rhys managed to keep the fact that they were dating secret KGB-style for quite a while, but Russell didn't make any attempt at keeping her disappointment about working on the The Dawn of the Planet of the Apes from going public. Keri wasn't happy at all with the absence of actual monkeys from the set, especially the baby ape with whom she was supposed to share a scene. Thankfully Felicity will be back at home on the set of Americans once again; FX' CEO has confirmed the network intends to order a Season 3.
They tried to keep it a secret, but the news that Americans co-stars Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys were a couple was too good to be kept under lock and key.
People Magazine happily reported late last month that the on-screen KGB comrades are a team off the set as well:
"The secret (love) life of Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys has been revealed.
"The two stepped out for date night on Thursday, stopping into New York's The Public Theater, where they watched the Steven Soderbergh-directed play The Library.
"They sat together and theatergoers spotted Russell stroking Rhys's hair and the two whispering before they left together."
Let's hope Keri is happier with the way her new relationship is working out than she was on the set of The Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
According to Russell the whole damned reason she signed up to work on the sci-fi flick in the first place, was the chance to share some of her scenes with the monkeys (via The Global Dispatch):
"This is the sad, sad truth. So I read the script and I was like, 'I get to play with the baby ape. That's the best scene and I get to do it.'
"We were out in this idyllic place in Canada and we've about to shoot that scene... no baby ape.
"No baby ape, not even one to look at! I said, 'Where is the best part about doing this movie?!' They told me to just imagine it!"
Thankfully Keri can put all that behind her when she's on the set for Americans Season 3--surrounded by things that she can actually touch and see.
FX Networks CEO John Landgraf recently told TV Guide that his company would, no doubt, make Americans renewal official any day now:
"I expect we'll have a formal Season 3 order announcement soon...We look forward to it being on our schedule for quite some time."
And we look forward to watching it.
Check out Americans Wednesday nights at 10 pm on FX.
