Daniel Bryan's title win at Wrestlemania back in March was huge for all the obvious reasons. But the new WWE Champ has another reason to savor that special day: he got to share it with his friend Connor Michelek. The 9-year old kid said he was Daniel Bryant's biggest fan- he died on April 25 after a long bout with Pediatric Brain Cancer.
Daniel Bryan had the chance to meet Connor in 2012. The two instantly forged a special connection that Bryan will always remember (via Fox 6 News):
"'Where's the Stone Crusher (a nickname Connor gave himself)?' Daniel asked as he walked through the door. ‘That's me,' Connor said in a little voice with a big smile. Tears filled the eyes of everyone in the room, especially Connor's parents, Steve Michalek and Brittany Caligiuri. Daniel and Connor kept in touch over the next two years. In 2014, at WrestleMania 30, with little Connor Michelek in the audience - Daniel Bryan won his match. His father says he was hopeful Bryan might come down and see Connor after his victory - and what happened next is a moment Connor's father calls ‘perfect.'"
Bryan did see Connor and went straight to him and hugged him. The video that follows is an extremely touching tribute to a brave young man who touched everyone's lives around him. The Superstars of the WWE all had a chance to meet Connor before Wrestlemania and even invited him to come down the runway and spend some time in the ring, where at one point Triple H got in there and asked "The Stone Crusher" to hit him. Crusher was initially hesitant, but after a minute turned around and knocked The Game to the mat and pinned him.
