Clay Aiken has been hitting the polls and Instagram in his bid for an NC Congress seat and it is paying off. The openly gay singer turned politician is currently leading in the primary, although the official results are too close to call. It looks like the American Idol runner might be one step making it to Washington.
Clay Aiken is running for a N.C. House Congressional seat. The polls for the Democratic primary closed last night but still no official winner has been announced. However, Aiken has been reported to be the winner pending a recount.
It is almost like Ryan Seacrest has cut back to commercial.
Aiken has taken his congressional run very seriously.The former American Idol runner-up, turned best selling artist, turned Broadway star has a lot to be proud of. However, Aiken is determined to be seen as more than a showman, as Reuters reports:
"I have done my very best not to sing. Because I think there's a challenge ... to get people to not see me as a singer but instead as someone who is capable and wants to fight for them."
The primary fight is just one of many for Aiken in the battleground state.
North Carolina has traditionally been a swing state, so the Democratic Aiken could stand a decent chance of winning the seat. However, he still has a long road ahead of him before he makes it.
Regardless of who wins, just like on American Idol, Aiken is bound to sell more records.
