After beginning with the season with a bang, The Tomorrow People ended it’s run this past Monday with a whimper. The CW series starring Robbie Amell is currently on the bubble, meaning that it has yet to be decided if the will renewed or cancelled.
Put together the Arrow’s Greg Berlanti and The Vampire Diaries, Julie Plec, add in a shirtless Robbie Amell and you would that you would have a recipe for CW success. However, it is looking more and more like there won't be a future for The Tomorrow People.
Through out the course of it’s run, The Tomorrow People lost around half of its audience. Now the show is one of a handful of CW series that has not already been renewed. Zap2it’s TV By The Numbers column gives the show less then a 30 percent chance of renewal.
The show ended it’s first season run this past Monday. Following the episode, the show’s star, Robbie Amell tweeted his thanks to his fans, writing:
“Thank you all so much for the support this year. We had a blast making #TheTomorrowPeople but you guys made it so much better. Thank you.”
Last week we reported on the possible cancellation of a number of CW series. One reader going by the name Deon Evans offered their thoughts on the CW’s renewal process:
“The thing about CW is they don't keep shows that have such a creative touch to it.. They like to keep what's trending in fear of starting the trend. What's hot right now is Vampires and Teen Dramas & not the mention the all american super hero. Why get rid of something so good. I am a fan of all three The Tomorrow People, Star Crossed, and The 100. They all bring something different in TV as we know it. Star Crossed is more than just a show about Alien love. It's about the ignorance of today's society not accepting things that are different. Things of that nature still go on today Homosexuality & Race. It's REAL. Vampires as far as our knowledge is concerned isn't. Though I am a fan of The Vampire Diaries! Even so The Tomorrow People! The fear of one race or super race overpowering the other & the fight to co exist. Because truth is we are all humans. CW really needs to rethink the idea of canceling either show... There are not many unique shows out there..Thus leaving me to re watch old tv shows.. or hunt for the few good shows left in the world.. None of which are on the CW. Be the change!”
