Transformers 4 Casting News: Mark Walhberg Gets Starring Role

Actor Mark Wahlberg is to be given the starring role in the next installment of "Transformers." The news came from long time series director Michael Bay.

Wahlberg who had recently teamed up with the director in the movie "Pain & Gain," will play alongside the warring robots in "Transformers 4."

"Mark is awesome. We had a blast working on "Pain and Gain" and I'm so fired up to be back working with him. An actor of his caliber is the perfect guy to re-invigorate the franchise and carry on the Transformers' legacy," said Bay.

Released via Michael Bay's website "Transformers," are suppose to be begin shooting next spring. From Paramount Pictures, a division of Viacom, Inc., in association with Hasbro, the film will be produced by Don Murphy & Tom DeSanto, Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Ian Bryce, and executive produced by Steven Spielberg, Bay, Brian Goldner and Mark Vahradian.

Bay according to Yahoo News had previously squashed rumours that Wahlberg was joining the film franchise.

The new "Transformers," film is set to be released on June 27, 2014 and will again feature the voice acting of Peter Cullen as "Optimus Prime."

The previous robot films featured Shia LeBeouf and the third "Transformers," film "Dark of the Moon," was the second highest grossing film of 2011 according Yahoo News.

Michael Bay's other project "Pain and Gain," is set for release in April. 26, 2013 and is an action comedy starring as mention Mark Wahlberg, WWE's Dwayne Johnson and Anthony Mackie and according to michaelbay.com its based on the unbelievable true story of three personal trainers in 1990s Miami who, in pursuit of the American Dream, get caught up in a criminal enterprise that goes horribly wrong.
