Heisman Jameis Winston Stealing Crab Legs, Crawfish; Arrest After Rape Investigation Dropped

Last week in Tallahassee, Florida State star athlete Jameis Winston was allegedly caught stealing approximately $32 worth of crab legs and crawfish from a local Publix supermarket. The Sheriff's Dept. was contacted, and within a few hours was Winston was issued a civil citation for shoplifting. This news comes only months after walking away from allegations of rape, made in December.

On April 30, Winston allegedly got some crab legs and crawfish and left without paying. Within a few hours he was contacted by county police (via CNN):

"[Winston]walked into a Publix near the FSU campus Tuesday night, ordered about $32 worth of crab legs and crawfish, and walked out of the store without paying, sheriff's Maj. Michael Wood told reporters. After deputies contacted him about three hours later, Winston told them that he forgot to pay, Wood said. 'He was very cooperative... Seemed fairly honest in the fact that he did not pay for the items, so it was not a huge mystery to solve.'"

After being cited for shoplifting, the Freshman two-sport athlete was sentenced to 20 hours community service and suspended from athletic activities. Winston promptly completed the requirements and was reinstated by the team.

The alleged shoplifting incident isn't the only legal trouble Winston has been in. In December a woman came forward and said she was raped by Winston in 2012. No charges were filed, and the investigation was closed, but both the prosecutor in the investigation and the alleged victim's attorney say the investigation was botched:

"The attorney for a woman who accused Florida State University quarterback Jameis Winston of raping her called Friday for a state inquiry into how authorities handled the now-closed investigation into her allegations. In a news conference Friday, attorney Patricia Carroll accused the Tallahassee police detective who handled the case of spending time and resources investigating her client instead of Winston. 'I would characterize the investigation overall as an investigation into a rape victim as opposed to a rape suspect,' Carroll said."

What do you think? Is this star athlete getting preferential treatment?
