McDonald's Flies Flag Upside Down In West Virginia After U.S. Elections

A McDonald's in West Virginia was grabbing a lot of attention the day after President Barack Obama won another term in the White House.

The fast food restaurant in Follansbee, West Virginia was flying the American flag upside down according to Huffington Post.

A flag that is flown this way is said to be a sign of disrespect and even signals a that a nation is suffering. Local media outlet News9 contacted the fast food business inquired why the flag was being flown this way an employee said that the owner wanted the flag flown to be that way and was set by them.

This sight angered some viewers and since then the flag has been rectified. According to the Huffington Post an email was sent to them by McDonald's franchisee Karen Mezan saying that the flag position was an "ill-timed mistake."

Mezan wrote.

"Unfortunately, a flag cable broke and during the process of trying the fix the flag, it was inadvertently turned upside down. It wasn't noticed that the flag was upside down until a customer inquired about it. We are working on fixing the flag right now. It's important to note that this was an accident, not intentional."

Lou Headman a veteran said "I think that's a stab at us. It doesn't make sense why anyone would want to do that. That's a distress signal, and maybe they didn't know that, but we know that,"

According to News9 Headman is said to be a regular customer there and told them that he was not upset and will still dine there.
