Seattle Seahawks' Super Bowl-winning QB Russell Wilson may be getting a divorce from his allegedly unfaithful wife, but at least he has his picture on a baseball card. Amidst rumors of Ashton cheating on Russell with none other than former teammate Golden Tate, Wilson's ultra rare baseball card featuring him in a Texas Rangers uniform is reportedly selling on eBay for as much as $189. So that's good news.
Apparently the card is so valuable because, while Wilson was drafted, he has never actually played a game with the Rangers. This limited run release is selling at a premium online since the chances of randomly finding one in a pack of Topps Bowman (the card manufacturer) is like finding a needle in a haystack (via Fox Sports):
"Why so much for a baseball card of a football player who the Rangers acquired in the Rule 5 draft last year? That's because the chances are a Rangers or Seattle Seahawks fan isn't going to have one in their collection. In the big jumbo package of Bowman, the chances of pulling a Wilson card is about 1 in 4,900 packs. That's a sure thing considering the odds of getting a Wilson card in some retail versions are as high as 1 in 24,800 packs."
Fans know that the value of Wilson's baseball card is apparently worth more than his wedding vows. After only two years of marriage, Russell and Ashton are filing for divorce (via Yahoo):
"I have made the difficult decision to file for divorce. Clearly, decisions like these don't come easy. Ashton and I respectfully ask for prayers, understanding and privacy during this difficult time. Moving forward, I will have no further comment on this personal matter."
Could the reason for the split have anything to do with rumors of infidelity? Wife Ashton has been accused of sleeping with Wilson's former teammate Golden Tate, however, Tate vehemently denies these allegations on Twitter (via Cover 32):
"Btw the ignorant minority of people, bloggers and whoever else spreading ridiculous rumors should cut it out. It's absurd the stories that. Are being made up from whatever source.... I strongly advise the ignorant folks blowing this situation up and spreading this rumors to shut the hell up. "
What do you think? Would you pay $189 for a baseball card? Is Golden Tate protesting too much?
