Last week's race at Richmond International Speedway was a disappointing one for Jeff Gordon, chalking up one more loss this season for the Sprint Cup, this time to Joey Logano. Gordon, who is still leading the points race despite being win-less this year, has also been squashing rumors about being linked to openly gay driver Stephen Rhodes.
After leading for 173 laps of the 400 lap race, Gordon became embroiled in a three-way battle for the lead with 9 laps to go. Fourth place driver Joey Logano bypassed all three of them to take the lead and finish out the race in first place. Gordon scored a minor victory by leading on points, had this to say about his second place finish (via CS Monitor):
"To come home second is still a great finish. Would have liked to have seen a longer run because we were really, really good after about 20 laps. That's when our car really seemed to come on. It was a great night. We were having fun. Gosh, what great race cars we're bringing to the racetrack, great pit stops all night tonight. It's frustrating to not win, but also each time we run this good, it builds more confidence and momentum that we're going to get that win soon."
Outside the racetrack, Gordon has put to bed the ridiculous rumors about being involved with openly gay NASCAR driver Stephen Rhodes. The controversy came after satirical sports site Empire Sports claimed the two were together back in March. The rumor was quickly dispelled by Syracuse.com:
"No, that report you've seen on Facebook claiming Jeff Gordon is in a 'homosexual relationship' with Stephen Rhodes is not true. It's a hoax from a fake sports news site. Empire Sports claimed Gordon had 'confirmed' he is dating Rhodes, an openly gay race car driver, and that NASCAR fans were outraged at the news. The outrage may be accurate, as the article quickly generated 1.5 million page views and 1,400 comments from readers, many of whom fell for it."
What do you think? Is Jeff Gordon really gay or not? Should Empire Sports be sued for copyright infringement?
