Classicalite has posted several stories of the benefits of music on a child's developing mind. Most recently: blues and elementary schoolers.
But the benefits are subjected to a small rank of instruments, in fact taking a worldly approach may even be better.
Thus, La MaMa will premiere a brand new workshop dedicated to such notions as kids and music.
Perry Yung will lead families through the corridors of the Zen concept of mindful music.
Using the Japanese shakuhachi bamboo flute, temple gongs and storytelling, your little ones will play theatrics and build their own take-home musical instrument.
The shakuhachi, apparently, is not much different than a recorder, made from babmboo and initially a Chinese musical device that made its way to Japan during the 6th century.
So if you're interested, the seminar will be held at none other than La MaMa on the Bowery on May 3 at 11 a.m.
For futher questions and review, make your way to the site.
But in the meantime, watch Yung break it down for you on the shakuhachi flutes and what they mean in context.
