Breaking News...This just in, old rich white man is possibly racist. Recently TMZ obtained an audio recording that they claim is of L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling. In the clip Sterling can allegedly be heard berating his girlfriend about her relationship with black men. Now Sterling’s estranged wife is opening up about her husband’s controversial (alleged) comments. Rapper Snoop Dogg has also got into the action via an Instagram video.
Recently TMZ got ahold a pretty nasty audio clip of L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling allegedly making racist remarks to his girlfriend. In the clip, someone sounding a lot like Sterling can be heard saying:
“Yeah, it bothers me a lot that you want to promo … broadcast that you’re associating with black people….You can sleep with [black people]. You can bring them in, you can do whatever you want. The little I ask you is not to promote it on that … and not to bring them to my games.”
Donald Sterling estranged wife Shelly recently spoke to TMZ where she blasted her husband:
"Our family is devastated by the racist comments made by my estranged husband. My children and I do not share these despicable views or prejudices….We will not let one man's small-mindedness poison the spirit of the fans and accomplishments of the team in the city we love. We are doing everything in our power to stand by and support our Clippers team."
Rapper Snoop Dogg has also gotten into the action, posting an Instagram video aimed at Sterling, where he calls him various names, including:
“bitch-a** redneck, white bread, chicken s**t mother f***er.”
Despite the public outrage it is likely that the Clippers owner won’t face too harsh a punishment.Gabe Feldman, a sports law professor, recently spoke to USA Today about the possible punishment that Sterling could be facing:
"The commissioner is given broad powers to protect the best interests of the NBA, and those powers extend to both the players and the owners,The devil is in the details, and the details are in the confidential NBA constitution and bylaws. My understanding is that the owners have given the commissioner power to discipline."
He went on to add that Sterling will likely be hit with a fine and suspension, adding:
"Any more severe discipline, including a forced sale or termination of the franchise, is limited to more extreme circumstances that don't apply here."
