FX new dark comedy series inspired by the Coen Brother's movie of the same name Fargo, is another critical success for the network. Cast anti-hero Martin Freeman, aka The Hobbit's Bilbo Baggins, claims he knew he'd be right for the shadowy part--he's been trying to play a rapist for years. Billy Bob Thornton, who revealed he still keeps in constant contact with Brad Pitt's wife Angelina Jolie, said he took the part because the script was interesting and he is done with making his own movies.
Martin Freeman, who plays the emotional enigma Lester Nygaard in the Coen Bros themed TV show Fargo, claims that he always knew he could make a great on-screen serial killer.
Martin told TV Guide that it used to be he'd fantasize about committing all manner of unspeakable and illicit acts on set:
"I just loved it. I've said to my agents for ages in a kind of lighthearted way that I think I need to play a serial killer, a f---ing rapist, drug dealer, whatever. Partly because people don't see me like that and partly because I want to flex those muscles again.
"Before The Office, I was a young actor in London who casting agents ... saw as kind of edgy. I would be going up for those parts that were a bit violent or a bit scuzzy.
"It's not that I'm a serial killer or anything.
"But it's in everybody. We all have those moments where you do want to throw someone out of a window."
Billy Bob Thornton told Fox that Hollywood's portrayal of the southern United States is anecdotal and offensive, and it always has been:
"For the most part, it's a shame. There's always been a slight prejudice against the South, actually not slight. I was trying to be kind.
"There's always been a prejudice about the South and Southerners in movies because they are portrayed as bigots.
"Generally they're cartoon characters and when they do romantic comedies about the South, they use that broad accent and all the women are these catty, Southern belles. It's just kind of silly."
But not every interview to promote Fargo has Billy Bob bitching and moaning about how Tinsel Town will never let him make the kind of movies he wants.
When asked about his ex-wife Angelina Jolie, Thornton seemed satisfied with the past and present (via Huffington Post):
"Oh, of course. She's amazing, amazing.
[Angie]'s got so much energy and so much goodness in her, and we check in on each other all the time. She makes sure I'm doing okay. I make sure she's doing okay."
Tune in to FX Tuesdays at 10 pm to have a laugh as Martin And Billy Bob pile up the bodies in Fargo.
